What is CBD?

What is CBD?

What is CBD? Why is it in every health aisle now? What are its effects?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis, the plant associated with marijuana.  Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid, a type of natural compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. It can be sold as an extract, a vaporized oil, or an oil-based capsule.

Its extract is one of the hundreds of compounds in cannabis plants, but CBD has received more attention lately as changes to state and federal laws have led to a rise in the production of CBD-infused products.

If you’re seeking out CBD as a means to get high, you won’t experience that. CBD is believed to have some positive health benefits, like helping people with anxiety and depression, has been used to aid sleep, or in reducing pain. According to Mayo Clinic CBD is being studied as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and anxiety, but research supporting the drug's benefits is still limited and have not been confirmed by the FDA.
